What is scalability testing?

It measures how a system's performance changes as load, data volume or users grow, and whether adding capacity actually helps. The output is a curve and a bottleneck, not a single pass or fail.

How is it different from load testing?

Load testing asks whether you can handle a known peak today. Scalability testing asks what happens at two or ten times that, and which component stops scaling first, so you can plan capacity before you need it.

What if our system does not scale horizontally?

That is a common and useful finding. We identify the constraint, often shared state, a database write path, or a lock, and give you the architectural change needed rather than just reporting that throughput plateaued.
